NEW YORK COMIC CON

I have always been fascinated with the creativity behind comic book superheroes. Back in college, my pastime activity would be spending hours on wikipedia reading all of the fictional biographies of various superheroes. After moving to NYC, I knew that I had to take this obsession to the next level by attending New York Comic Con (NYCC). 2016 NYCC lasted for four days and my brother and I bought a one day pass for Saturday. Purchasing the ticket was a bit of a hassle. The organizers made everyone interested in purchasing a ticket set up a “fan account” and a unique link will be sent out when tickets could be purchased. Tickets were available to be purchased about three months before the event. On the first day of the ticket sale, I had to wait in a virtual queue for about an hour to purchase my tickets. By the time I was able to get my tickets, most of the multiple day tickets were sold out. The tickets are supposed to come in the mail in a form of a badge that you can use the day of. However, I accidentally lost our badges in the mail because I accidentally put in the wrong apartment number and got it sent to a lady who lived a floor above our apartment. After more than 4 calls and several strong worded emails to the organizer’s customer service, we were able to get new badges issued. Other than the unnecessary heart attack caused by my own stupidity for losing the tickets, the event was more than what I could have ever imagined. The cosplay was amazing. Everyone went above and beyond with their costumes. I saw 90s X-Men, Flash, Reverse Flash, Silver Banshee, Supergirl and 10 million Margot Robbie Harley Quinns. I showed up as Jubilee from the  X-Men Apocalypse movie and all I did was bought a yellow jacket from Forever 21 . There were also panels, autograph sessions and photo ops. My brother and I was not too interested in these but we did watch Shadowhunter’s panel and I finally saw Harry Shum Jr. in real life and it was pretty cool.  Overall, it was an amazing first comic con experience and I promised myself that I will put more effort into my cosplay next year. Time to start brainstorming!
